Japan is known for its oriental traditions, original subculture, and beautiful nature. As we get closer to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, you might be considering traveling to Japan in the near future. In fact, the number of tourists is rapidly increasing over the past few years, showing how popular a tourist attraction Japan is. Tokyo and Osaka have been the main destinations for most people, however, guidebooks and websites have begun introducing unique areas in the suburbs. Cities are similar all around the world, but when it comes to authentic Japanese culture and traditions, the suburbs and the countryside are the places to go.

Here I have a list of the places I visited over the past couple of years that are not in the middle of the city.

  1. Nikko Toshogu (Tochigi Prefecture)

  2. Okinawa (Part 1 and Part 2)

  4. Kyushu District (South Japan)

Here is my blog post about Shirakawa-Go, one of the places I am hoping to visit.

There are many merits living in the countryside. If you are interested in experiencing true Japanese culture, feel free to check out these traditional Japanese houses that we rent, in the link below!
